I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your

letter of the 16th instant, authorising me to assume control,

until further notice, of all Branches of the Hongkong &

Shanghai Banking Corporation outside Hongkong and enemy occupied

territory as Acting Chief Manager, and I have informed all the

Branches coming under my control that no further instructions

are to be accepted from Hongkong until further notice.

I note that it is the intention of H.M.G. to take

any legal action which may be necessary eventually to validate

any action which may be taken by me in pursuance of the

authority contained in your letter.
